Preaching About is a series of five practical books intended to help preachers bring the light of the gospel to the actual problems of the people. While many books discuss biblical interpretation, techniques of sermon construction, or methods of delivery, few concentrate on the everyday concerns of the individuals in the congregation. Written by distinguished authors experienced in this field, these books address issues that are of abiding importance to today's Christians
H. C. Read discusses contemporary biblical preaching and its potential for reaching people at the point of their real needs, whether those needs concern loneliness, marital problems, or a global crisis like world hunger. He suggests resources that can help the minister become a better pastoral preacher and offers examples of sermons that deal, directly and indirectly, with the real needs of people.
"This volume will be an inspiration and guide to ministers who take the responsibility of preaching seriously and who continue to believe that preaching is one of the most powerful media for the formation of character and for the formation of America today."-James I. McCord, Chairman, Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton
"For over thirty years the pen, pulpit, and person of David Read have graced American religious life, illuminating the pilgrimages of many thousands of people. His experience, wisdom, piety, and wit are abundantly evident in this new book."-M. D. Aeschliman, Lecturer, English Department, University of Virginia
DAVID H. C. READ is Minister, Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York City. A prisoner of war during World War II, he is an internationally known preacher and author. Among the many books he has written are The Faith Is Still There and Unfinished Easter, as well as two autobiographical works, This Grace Given and Grace Thus Far.
