<note>Two prominent contemporary theologians examine the problematic nature of God language today.

David Tracy discusses the "public" character of theologi-cal discourse, schematizes the different types of theology -fundamental, systematic, and practical and describes their different tasks and approaches. He closely analyzes two analogical traditions in theology Thomism and process theology and one dialectical tradition - neo-orthodoxy. The result is to put the theological enterprise on a firm footing, descriptively and methodologically.

John B. Cobb, Jr., confronts three challenges to traditional Christian theistic language: the scientific world view, Bud-dhism, and feminism. In accepting the need for revision in the way we talk about God, he argues, we will be enabled to reformulate our God language and strengthen it.

Talking About God thus provides both theoretical and practical perspectives on the nature of God language, the challenges to it, and possible responses. For students, teachers, clergy, and laity who would like a brief guide into some current theological issues, this is a comprehensible survey of an important topic.</note>
