The Skilled Helper presents a three-stage helping model and a helper-skills training program designed to increase the reliability of the helping process. This model is based on the work of Carkhuff and others, who espouse systematic skills-training approaches to helping and helper training; social-influence theory; and learning theory and the principles underlying the maintenance and change of behavior.
