<note>Webber's analysis of the history of Christian worship is very well done and I would expect that his writing here would be an eye-opener to many pastors and congregational leaders.... I found this to be a helpful and sympathetic treatment leading the reader to do something about what is being read. Webber is full of practical proposals for the improving of church worship..

-Dr. Ralph P. Martin, Fuller Theological Seminary

If you don't own a book on worship. Webber's book would be a good purchase. You won't agree with all he says, but he affords a fine overview of worship in the Bible, the history of worship, and principles and practices of worship today... Webber will hardly satisfy those who want a quick fix to shore up floundering worship practices. He provides something better: a careful look at the tradition of worship and the right kinds of questions about the ways in which we worship.

-Harry Boonstra, The Banner

Webber has attempted to demonstrate some of the inherent weak-nesses in the worship of most evangelical churches, weaknesses that stem from the Puritan and pietistic movements of previous centuries. His hope is that evangelicals will perceive these weaknesses and show a willingness to move back toward the catholic tradition in worship and away from the individualism, fragmentation, and man-centeredness that is all too common in evangelical churches.

-Michael G. Smith, New Horizons

"Worship is the missing jewel of the evangelical church," noted A. W. Tozer years ago. In his book, Robert Webber summons evangeli cals to an expedition to find it.

-Fr. Jon-Stephen Hedges, St. Athenasius Academy of Orthodox Theology</note>
