ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The Rev. Dr. John C.B. Webster was born in New York City in 1935. He has received degrees from Amherst College (B.A.), Union Theological Seminary (B.D.), Lucknow University (M.A.), and the University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D.). He came to India in 1960 and served as Supply Pastor of Lal Bagh Methodist Church in Lucknow while studying at Lucknow University. From 1963 to 1976 he was at Baring Union Christian College, Batala, Punjab teaching history. From 1971 to 1976 he was also Director of the Christian Institute of Sikh Studies there. He then became Assistant Professor of History of Christianity at United Theological College, Bangalore, 1977-1981. Upon returning to the 11.S.A. in 1981 he was Visiting Professor of Church History and World Mission at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 1981-83. Then, from 1984 to 1994 he served as Pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Waterford, Connecticut and taught at Union Theological Seminary in New York as an occasional part-time Lecturer in Ecumenics. At present he is a diaconal worker of the Worldwide Ministries Division of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He has puolisied widely in the field of Indian history and especially in the history of Christianity in India.
