The great thanksgiving

F or pastors and those preparing to be pastors, Watkins explains clearly and eloquently the principles of a worship that is "table-centered" rather than "pulpit-centered."

Bringing together the fruits of a lifetime of teaching and writing about Christian worship, he explores the development of worship from early Christian times to the present, the shape and language of communion, and how other liturgies fit into the larger picture of eucharistic worship.

Each chapter ends with a section of questions for discussion and reflection called "Encouraging the Conversation."

Keith Watkins serves as founding pastor of a new congregation in Sun City West, Arizona, after a long career as a professor of practical parish ministry at Christian Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books on worship, including Celebrate with Thanksgiving: Patterns of Prayer at the Communion Table and is editor of Thankful Praise.
