The Ecumenical Decade of the Churches in Solidarity with Women (1988-98) became one of the most widely known initiatives of the WCC during the 1990s. It built on a long history of WCC engagement in issues regarding women in church and society. The author draws on the lessons of the Decade and also on her own considerable experience of the ecumenical movement.
