Marxism, in both its theory and implementation, poses a tremendous challenge to the world's Christian peoples. In the engaging study, French theologian René Coste explores the nature of this challenge, drawing on his broad understanding of the writings of Marx and Engels, as well as those of Gramsci, Garaudy, Althusser, Bloch, and other theorists. The author exposes essential features of Marxist anal-ysis and compares them to the foundations of his Christian faith, not-ing points of conflict and convergence. He also faces honestly Marxist critiques of religion, critiques which, in his view, can be salutary for the Christian church.
