<note>Partners in Dialogue is a masterly overview of the essentials of inter-religious dialogue today. It will be an invaluable resource for students of comparative religion as well as all missioners and missiologists.

In older missiological works the word "dialogue" was not used. Today the word and the necessity of dialogue is commonly accepted on all con-tinents. This is an important development; but there is still confusion. Slogans have come up: there are no longer missions, only dialogue is left! Or, we should reaffirm the missionary task of the churches and dialogue is just a kind of missionary method! Or, dialogue has to do only with cooperation in practical fields, not with truth! Or, dialogue is a com-prehensive approach, a common striving after the fullness of salvation!

For over twenty years Professor Camps has been addressing the ques tion of dialogue. The main results of that teaching were laid down in three books, which were published in Dutch. The first treats various theological positions missiologists and theologians today take in the debate con-cerning dialogue and mission. It also contains a good deal of historical research, as in the past there have always been men and women of dia-logue. The second book deals with practical dialogues in various reli-gious and social situations. More than in the first book Camps' own posi tion is clarified here. The third volume inquires after the results of the dialogue: does dialogue change the life of Christians and of Christian communities? His answer is affirmative.</note>
