DOING THEOLOGY IN A PLURALISTIC WORLD

This is a study of the significant issues as we engage in theological reflection in a world which is increasingly pluralistic. It calls for con-textualization of theology. The context is mainly Asian with its rich mosaic of cultures, religions and history. One can no longer do theol-ogy in isolation from this pluralistic setting.

Culture, religion, politics, and nature are identified as providing the arena for doing theology. Christian faith and tradition are seen in relationship to these areas of life.

The main questions that are being explored are: How is faith re-lated to culture? is my religion the one and only true religion? Can we mix religion with politics? Are we called to dominate nature?

It exposes cultural chauvinism, religious imperialism, political domination, and ecological indifference. The principles that emerge are participation, relationships, mutuality and communality. It seeks to move from confrontation to collaboration, competition to
