Originally introduced in England by Penguin Books as the Pelican Commentaries, this series makes clear the circumstances under which each New Testament book was written and what the Biblical writers intended to convey to their original readers. Each volume explains current scholarly opinion on the religious, his-torical, critical, and linguistic questions raised by each book or books it covers. Pelican Commentaries are readily identified by the ancient Christian symbol of the Pelican sacrificing herself to feed her young-a reminder of the saving work of Christ. The General Editor is D. E.
