<note>A Reflective Commentary

"When the four gospels are compared, most readers readily recognize that John's book and his Jesus are "different" in many ways from the others. Not all commentators, however, speak about the reasons for John's "differ-ence" as clearly and understandably as Fr. Taylor. His commentary, reflective of recent Johannine scholarship, is most readable and illuminat-ing; it has its own quite fresh and distinctive insights and reflections on the gospel. The book should prove valuable to all students of John who seek a deeper understanding of Jesus as God's Word incarnate.

Rev. Michael J. Taylor, S.J.

Michael J. Taylor, S.J. received his S.T.D. from Woodstock College and is professor of Reli-gious Studies at Seattle University. He is a re-spected liturgical and ecumenical scholar, has also taught N.T. scripture on the college level for over twenty years. He is the author or editor of a growing number of books. Among these titles published by Alba House are: The Mystery of Suffering and Death (1973), A Companion to Paul (1975), A Companion to John (1977) and The Sacraments (1981).</note>
