<note>A COMMENTARY ON THE GOSPEL OF JOHN presents the program of the Diocese of Memphis for studying John's Gospel. It takes the Fourth Gospel and deals with it episodically, providing a commentary on each section, along with an overview of the passage. For each chapter of the book, study guide questions are provided to stimulate discussion and prayer among small groups of people who are studying the Gospel.

The process of Scripture study, prayer, and discussion found in A COMMENTARY ON THE GOSPEL OF JOHN grew out of the Matthew Year of the Diocese of Memphis, during which many people came into deeper contact with the Lord through the study of Scripture. The success of the study of Mat-thew's Gospel, both in the diocese and by those who used the diocesan program A COMMENTARY ON THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW (Paulist Press, 1979), gave rise to the present exploration of the Fourth Gospel. Here again, readers will find a good blend of contemporary biblical scholarship, Ideas for personal reflection, and ways to organize a study meeting

Rev. Albert Kirk is a pastor and religious educator in the Diocese of Memphis Robert E Obach is coordinator of Adult Education for the Diocese of Memphis. They are co-authors of A COMMENTARY ON THE GOSPEL OP MATTHEW</note>
