Believing God: Studies on faith in hebrew 11

What is faith? Surely there is no more crucial subject to be considered at the present time, and yet there is hardly one on which so much confusion abounds. We are living in a day in which the church's faith has become man-centered and the consequence is that even the average church member has very little grasp of genuine faith. The church today may be justly described as having lost its faith.

Hebrews 11, well known as the "faith" chapter of the Bible, describes the only kind of valid faith there is. Any faith other than that which is depicted in this chapter is a spurious faith-whether the object of such faith be the medical pro fession or a false God.

In this book of thirty chapters on Hebrews 11. Dr. Kendall focuses on the mighty stalwarts of faith, those "who by faith" did wonderful things. He frequently reminds the reader that the writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews was more concerned about the nature of faith than he was about these people of faith. It was his thesis regarding faith itself that lay behind his bringing in these men and women in the first place.
