<note>José Míguez Bonino is professor of systematic theology at the Protestant Institute of Higher Theological Studies (ISEDET) in Buenos Aires. Known as one of the most distinguished ex-pounders of the new Latin American theology, he is the author of many books, a prominent activist for human rights in Argen-tina, and a lecturer at numerous institutions of theology around the world. A native Argentinian, he completed his master's degree in theology at the Evangelical School of Theology (now ISEDET) and at Emory University in Atlanta. His doctorate in theology is from Union Theological Seminary in New York. He was a Methodist observer at the Council of Vatican II and is a former president of the World Council of Churches. He is married to Noemi Niuewenhiuze. They have three children: Néstor (the co-author of this study), Eduardo, and Daniel, as well as five grandchildren.</note>
