<note>John Goldingay, an Old Testament specialist, is Principal of St John's College, Nottingham. He is author of a number of books including Theological Diversity and the Authority of the Old Testament, Approaches to Old Testament Interpretation (now updated), the Old Testament Commentary Survey, and the volume on Daniel in the Word Biblical Commentary series. His most recent works are the companion volumes, Models for Scripture and Models for Interpretation.

These portraits of the prophet Jeremiah and the servant Isaiah demonstrate that Christian ministry must be looked at from a deeper and more demanding perspective than simply as a privilege or as a way of exercising gifts. In approaching and understanding the biblical material for today, the author is convinced of the need to appreciate the context and personal experience of the writers themselves.</note>
