The Daily Study Bible (Old Testament) is a continuation of the series on the New Testament made famous by the late Professor William Barclay. It sets out to answer two ques-tions: firstly, "What did the Old Testament mean for the Hebrew people to whom it was originally addressed?" and secondly and more importantly, "What does the Old Testa-ment mean for the Christian believer in the twentieth century?" The contributors are all competent scholars who have a fascinating story to tell about the formation of the Old Testament books and their place in the life of God's ancient people. But they are also committed Churchmen who are convinced that these books speak across centuries to God's people today, bringing a message of experience and of hope, of judgement and of comfort which our weary world desperately needs to hear. It is on this contemporary message of the scriptures that the series lays most stress. Robert Davidson was born in Fife and educated at the Univer-sity of St. Andrews. He lectured at Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Edinburgh Universities before moving to his present post of Professor of Biblical Studies, University of Glasgow.
