The Book List provides short reviews of up to 500 books a year. It includes publications not only on the Old Testament directly but also on many relat-ed areas, including archaeology, epigraphy, Hebrew and related Semitic lan guages (especially Northwest Semitic), relevant ancient Near Eastern his-tory and literature, the Hellenistic world, early Judaism, and social anthro-pology. The main value of the Book List is its comprehensiveness and its immediacy, in that it is usually among the first periodicals to review a book.

It appears annually in June. This Book List is also published as an issue of the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, included in the price of the annual subscription. In 2000 the Book List forms issue 89 of the Journal
