``This is a fine little book-well conceived, nicely developed, and clearly written. Though short, it covers every important issue relevant to its topic. The balance between historical and contemporary fig-ures is good, and the discussions of both are accurate and insightful. It is an excellent text for courses in philosophy and reli- gious studies.
