<note>St. Paul (1 Co 14:9, N.J.B.) says: 'If you do not use your tongue to produce speech that can be readily understood, how can anyone know what you are saying?'

In Celebration of God's Word, the Reader of Scripture will find a detailed analysis of the Technical Devices of Speech; when applied and communicated with imagination and understanding, it will evoke happiness and the courage to live according to God's Will.

Besides Readers whose native language is not English, very good Readers find certain speech sounds difficult, therefore the shaping of each speech sound is explained, together with appropriate examples and Ear Training Exercises.

To portray a gentle Jesus, the elaborate chapter on Breathing for Speaking and Singing advises how to use a gentle voice. The phonetic symbols are also a guide-line to Pronunciations not given.

The Illustrations of the Readings and Psalms are an invitation to put our

trust in God alone, to create a Sense of Wonder, to praise God in Thanks-

giving. The chapters on the Use of the Microphone and Nervousness will help the Reader to gain confidence.

ELSIE HARDEN has been teaching for over thirty years in Ireland, at the Dublin Institute of Adult Education, at various seminaries and schools: Speech Training, Public Speaking and Reading in Church. At present she is giving Presentations of Readings In Celebration of God's Word.</note>
