AN INTRODUCTION TO ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY

This valuable introduction to the philosophy of the Greeks and the Romans is intended for those who have no previous knowledge of the subject. It ex- tends from the beginnings of Greek philosophy to St. Augustine with whom the medieval period be- gins. Particular attention is paid to the later period of Greek philosophy which culminates in the neo-Platonism of Plotinus, and to the relationship between Greek philosophy and the thought of the early Christian theologians.

An Introduction to Ancient Philosophy was first published in 1947. There have been two subse- quent editions and numerous reprints. The text of this paperback edition is taken from that of the third edition of 1957, with the addition of a Critical Introduction contributed by the author in 1977
