<note>The history of Wesleyan theology is a rich but unmined field. This book of primary sources presents crucial themes and influ-ential theologians of the developing Wesleyan movement from John and Charles Wesley in the eighteenth century to Carl Michal-son and Albert Outler in the mid-twentieth. Themes such as justification by faith, sanctification, the role of Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, human nature, the interpretation of the Bible, the authority of the Church and the means of grace are represented through the writings of major theologians. Each selection is long enough to convey both the flavor and the sub-stance of the theological argument. Taken together these selec-tions demonstrate the lively and continuing importance of the Wesleyan theological tradition, not only for people who are called Methodists, but also for the wider ecumenical Church.</note>
