Southern Reformed Theology

After many decades of being negleved, Southern Presby terian theologians Robert Lewis Dabrey and James Henley Thornwell have again found an audience. This concise guide to their lives and thought arrives at a most oppor-tune time.

As the works by Dabney and Thornwell are being reprinted in the 1980s, Southern Reformed Theology will be welcomed by the thousands of evangelicals who have found in their works a rich theological vein. Thornwell is described by Luder Whitlock as "one of the outstanding Presbyterian leaders of the nineteenth century" Dabney is said by Douglas Floyd Kelly to have been "perhaps the greatest, and certainly the most prolific, Southern Presbyterian theologian" of that century.

In addition to the chapters on these two giants, Southern Reformed Theology contains an introduction to "the Southern tradition" by Morton Smith, stated clerk of the General Assembly of the Pres byterian Church in America. It includes as well an introduction to America Reformed theology by George Marsden.
