Book's Detail
More difficult sayings of Jesus

Such puzzling sayings of Jesus were studied and explained by William Neil in his very popular The Difficult Sayings of Jesus. Realizing that there are many more familiar sayings of Jesus that are little understood, Neil began a sequel, but died before he could complete it. Stephen Travis has here completed Neil's study of 31 more difficult sayings.

Some of the remarkable sayings of Jesus included in this collection are "My kingdom does not belong to this world-my kingly authority comes from elsewhere," "How blest are the sorrowful; they shall find conso- lation," and "Anyone who wishes to be a follower of mine must leave self behind; he must take up his cross and come with me.

Along with its predecessor, this book promises to present the message of the Bible with its meaning for today to ordinary people who often wonder what Jesus really meant when he uttered words that are still perplexing and often misunderstood nearly 2,000 years later.

William Neil, who died in 1979, was an eminent Scottish theologian. Stephen Travis is the author of several books including The Jesus Hope and I Believe in the Second Coming of Jesus (Eerdmans, 1982).
