Why was Jesus crucified? The least disputed fact of Jesus' life is his death. Jesus died on a Roman cross, that is, he was killed in the manner Rome reserved particularly for insurrectionists. Yet none of his immediate followers was harmed or even arrested, implying that Pontius Pilate knew perfectly well Jesus was, in fact, politically harmless. Why, then, did Pilate crucify him?
