Faith: the gift of God

Two men hear the Gospel. They are from similar backgrounds. One turns to faith in Christ; the other turns away from Christ. Why the difference? Faith in the one, unbelief in the other! But how does faith come? Answers vary considerably. Some lay emphasis on God's work; others stress man's action. Many imply that a dectrinal understanding of the problem does not matter.

In this book Tom Wells shows us that it certainly matters. He invites us (1) to search into the Scriptures which bear on the matter and (2) to look back and examine our own coming to faith in Christ. Under the blessing of the Holy Spirit this should help our whole understanding of the doctrines of God, man and salvation.

The conclusion that the faith with which we believe is only ours because God creates it in our heart arises from man's evil nature and God's holy character. No man left to himself will ever turn to Christ. Nor will God share his glory with another. Salvation is all of grace. Faith is the gift of God.

This book is a refreshingly new approach to a Biblical understanding of the doctrines of faith and salvation. It is an attempt 'to write theology for the ordinary man.'
