<note>Faith"there is no other term in our language capable of expressing what the term...really means in its most fundamental sense." Tossed about indiscriminately for centuries, it is an abstraction for which many still seek a satisfactory explanation. In this clear and comprehensive study, faith is examined in light of what the Bible says in both the Old and New Testaments and boldly emerges as the vital truth at the heart of Christianity.

Revealed primarily through poetry and narrative, the faith of the Old Testament is seen as an attitude of trust. Hermisson and Lohse provide passages that exemplify this faith-the stories of Abraham, Noah, Moses, and others; the Psalms, in songs of lament and praise; and Isaiah, with its prophecies of Christ's new kingdom.

In the New Testament faith is manifested in the power of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. Through an examination of Paul's letters and of selected passages from the Gospels, the authors relate this power to prayer, miracles, justification, and works exhibiting faith as the binding force between communities of believers.

This biblical encounter will lend a greater comprehension of faith to those who have failed to grasp its full meaning. By putting complete faith in what God has revealed through his word and acting upon this revelation as truth, readers stand to gain richer meaning and deeper commitment for their lives.</note>
