Eucharistic words of Jesus

All study of the Lord's Supper in its New Testament relationships must deal with the insights of this classic work. The argument of Professor Jeremias, documented with great care, is that historical truth can in fact be detected behind the traditions preserved in the New Testament. The last supper of Jesus with his friends was the climax of a series of Messian- ic meals, in this case a Passover meal. Jesus himself abstained from the supper in anticipation of a new Exodus which was to be initiated by the breaking of his body and the outpouring of his blood, and at the supper his disciples received a share in the atoning power of their Lord's sufferings.
