This volume originated in a series of consultations convened and chaired by Sir John Houghton, a leading scientist concerned for right thinking in the area of Christian healing. Experienced at helping knowledgeable people find agreement on complex issues, he decided to use these skills to help theologians, Christians from the medical world and Christians involved in other forms of healing ministry to work on the controversial questions to do with healing. The people drawn together in this exercise covered a wide range of positions, from those who expect miraculous healing to those who were sceptical. Each chapter of this book is jointly authored by a theologian and a medic, and cover the central topics, including how are people healed today?; the significance of Jesus' healing ministry; psychiatry and religion; and suffering. |
