What Constitutes Authentic Christianity?

WHAT CONSTITUTES AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY?

N. F. S. Grundtvig

Translated and Edited by Ernest D. Nielsen

This translation from the Danish of What Constitutes Authentic Christianity? follows the first edition of 1826 as found in N. F. S. Grundtvig's Udvalgte Skrifter. A polemical Christian apologist, Grundtvig here states his strong belief in the reality of the spirit as he cham- pions the cause of Christianity. Today, there is a grow- ing interest in what Grundtvig's ideas "possibly may offer to our own thinking and planning in the years ahead." From an historical point of view, he thus represents one of the most important leaders of the Lutheran Church.

N. F. S. Grundtvig (1783-1872) was a preacher and pro- lific writer in the fields of history, education, and religion. His hymns are still widely used today.

Ernest D. Nielsen, the translator, was President of the Danish Interest Conference of the Lutheran Church in America, and President of Grand View College, Des Moines, lowa.
