While the Bible does not spell out a detailed theory of does, suggests Lewis Smedes in this stimulating and helpful mind open up for us a perspective on life as a whole, including our sexuality. Our bodies must be seen as part of the glorious creation which God called good and which he redeemed in Jesus Christ. We are to rejoice in the rich possibilities they offer for enjoyment and communion. This is not to say that our sexual freedom in Christ comes with no restraints. Sexual relations outside of marriage are wrong. Smedes insists, because they violate the inner reality of the act itself, which is to make the participants "one flesh."
