The issue of celibacy has become a major concern for modern-day Christians. Sex and the Single Christian is a Bible-based study from an unabashedly evangelical perspec- tive. Audrey Beslow explores the psychological effects of sexual union and examines whether abstinence from sexual inter- course is God's best plan for singles. She also discusses friendships as healthy alternatives to sexual relationships. Throughout, Beslow provides case studies of various single people based on composite characters. Beslow argues for a celibate mind-set that can help contro physical reactions. She contends that just as sexual involve ment with a series of sexual partners can become a habit, so can celibacy.
