Few things seemed more certain after the Reformation than Paul's teachings on salvation and ethics. But several New Testament scholars have challenged the old view. Some argue that no consistent Pauline theology of the law even exists. In The Law and Its Fulfillment Thomas R. Schreiner explains why new proposals have shaken the footings of the "Reformation consensus." Then he goes back to the Epistles themselves for a fresh look at what Paul said and his reasoning. Thorough, analytical study of key texts shows that the language and logic of Paul's teachings do not support many conclusions of modern New Testament scholarship. On the other hand, these studies have produced evidence that some nuances of Pauline theology need to be revisited.
