’What does it mean to confess faith in God today?’ For six summers a number of persons from all faiths, ages, sexes, and colors struggled with that question in a retreat setting in the quiet of the facilities of the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research on the grounds of St. John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota. These persons share with the reader their honest thoughts and feelings about this question—central to an understanding of the Christian faith. To explore with them the many facets of this question is both a joyful and painful venture. Co-authors Henry and Stransky have skillfully pulled together some observations, reflections, and convictions of the participants in this retreat exercise.
