Book's Detail
Coping with public tragedy

FROM THE BOOK:

First and foremost, helping children cope with posttraumatic stress following tragedy involves assuring them that they are safe (assuming that they are), that adults are in charge and working to help the situation, and that everything

possible is being done to prevent a recurrence. - BARBARA L. BOUTON, Schools, Children and Public Tragedy

In a free society you will never be able to "manage" the news media or expect you will agree with all of its actions, but never give up on trying to make it more responsive to the needs of families and individuals coping with tragedy.

- PAUL R, DOLAN, Public Tragedy and the News Media

In a televised interview, Bill T. Jones, dancer and choreographer, was asked how

dance could be relevant as a response to 9/11. Was he, himself, in fact able to dance? Could he envision himself going back to the site, to Ground Zero, and dancing? Yes, he could, was the reply, "I could dance with respect...I could dance with grief... I could dance and invite grieving people to dance, and we'd dance together."
