<note>THE PREACHER'S PORTRAIT is a fresh and practical study of the terms employed in the New Testament to describe the minister and his task. "We need," states Dr. Stott, "to gain in the Church today a clearer view of God's revealed ideal for the preacher, what he is and how he is to do his work. So I shall be considering his message and his authority, the character of the proclamation he is called to make, the vital necessity of his own experience of the Gospel, the nature of his motive, the source of his power, and the moral qualities which should char acterize him, notably humility, gentleness and love. This, I suggest, is the preacher's portrait, a portrait painted by the hand of God Himself on the broad canvas of the New Testa-ment."

JOHN R. W. STOTT is the Rector of All Souls Church, London, and serves as Chaplain to Her Majesty, the Queen of England. He is also well known as the author of Basic Christianity, and many other books.

should be on the required reading list of every Bible school, college, and seminary This book should be placed in the hands of every man being ordained as a preacher and should be read before ordination."

-Baptist Sunday School Board

"If your ministry has lost its glow and you need a new challenge, this book surely can supply it."

-Moody Monthly

"One of the recurring needs of the pastor is to take a fresh look at the teaching of the Scriptures. The author accomplishes this. He makes all of Scripture speak to the problems of the modern preacher."
