I have chosen to revise this book for several reasons. First, the field of marriage counseling has changed over the past ten years. Second, in the light of criticism of the original work, it has seemed advisable to change some of my original formulations in order to be clearer and to make myself understood The purpose of the book remains the same, i e, "to provide the practicing minister and the training student with a source book in the increasingly complex field of marriage counseling This book attempts to bring the minister into relationship with the emerging field of marriage counseling. It is dedicated to helping the minister sharpen his counseling skills, to increasing the minister's perception and awareness of marriage problems, and to the mustering of the couple's and family's resources to deal with these problems appreciatively and intelligently."
