Hope from the City is based on John Vincent's stories and reflections on thirty years of ministry in the Sheffield Inner City Ecumenical Mission and the Urban Theology Unit.

Dr Vincent introduces readers to the realities of the urban scene today, and takes nine characteristics, showing how they contain both 'sorrows and surprises'. He then describes the practice, theology and spirituality of inner city mission, and concludes with lessons for public policy. for individuals and for communities and churches.
