Church Planting at the End of the Twentieth Century

America needs more evangelical churches. This statement may seem ridiculous until you consider the following facts.

There are 80 million people in America who claim no church affiliation. Only six other nations have a total population larger than 80 million.

Another 90 million Americans, while affiliated with a church, are either nonresident or inactive.

It is unrealistic to think that these people can be evangelized and discipled by existing churches. New churches are needed.

However, this is not a task to be left to denominational leadership, states Dr. Charles Chaney. The job belongs to individual churches, to pastors and laymen with a burden for the lost, and a willingness to exercise their spiritual gifts for the furthering of the Kingdom of God.
