Philip A. Anderson is associate pro-fessor of pastoral psychology and director of clinical experience at Chi-cago Theological Seminary. An or-dained minister in the United Church of Christ, the author served in the parish ministry from 1949 to 1953. After joining the faculty at Dart-mouth College, where he was visiting lecturer in 1953-54, he became dean of students at Chicago Theological Seminary in 1954 and served in that capacity for seven years.

Dr. Anderson's academic background includes an A.B. degree from Macal-ester College, a B.D. degree from Chi-cago Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
