Liturgical renewal as a way to christian unity

James F. Puglisi

Since Vatican II, the Catholic church and other churches have undergone liturgical renewal. Do these renewals have anything in common and do they bring the churches and ecclesial communions into contact with each other? Liturgical Renewal and a Way to Christian Unity explores this question and brings to light the great strides the Christian churches have made toward unity.

James F. Puglisi, S.A., S.T.D. is director of Centro Pro Unione, Rome. He is also professor of sacramental theology and ecumenism at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant Anselmo and has collaborated on projects of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches on the use of liturgical materials in faith and order issues. He is the author of the series The Process of Admission to Ordained Ministry (Liturgical Press) and editor of books dealing with ecumenical topics such as the Petrine ministry and the apostolic succession.

This rich collection of essays bears eloquent testimony to the ecumenical liturgical cooperation of these past forty years and recalls what a great gift it has been to all the churches. The ecumenical-liturgical renewal has set us on a path from which we cannot turn back and upon which all authentic liturgy depends so that all may be one Liturgical Renetcola Way to Christian Unity revives our hope in the spirit of the Council and offers fresh wisdom as we commit ourselves ever more faithfully to com mon worship within the one body of Christ."

"The work of Fr. Jim Puglisi, S.A, is indeed of monumental importance for ecumenical relations. It clarifies a number of issues that many Eastern churches, Orthodox and Catholic, are today struggling to discern and resolve. The perspective I have personally gained from this book shall help me resolve problems before they would occur within my church and among my people. Every theologian and liturgist must review this work. It is a dream come true for those with vision of renewal and reform!"
