A revolution in Christian theology is surging through the Third World church. Traditional Western formulations are not meeting their needs, and these churches are looking for new, more effective ways of doing theology.

Analyzing the needs of the Third World church and the con-ditions essential for Christian theology, J. Andrew Kirk argues for contextualization. Good theology, he says, will occur when Christians work out the meaning of their faith in their everyday lives. If theology is formulated in the Third World, it can be tested even as it takes shape. Kirk points the way beyond analysis and evaluation to viable Christian theology for national churches.

For eleven years J. Andrew Kirk lectured in theology in Buenos Aires. He is now associate director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity and theologian missioner for the Church Missionary Society in London. He has written Liberation Theology: An Evangelical View from the Third World and Theology Encounters Revolution.
