Beyond Charisma

What is happening to the Charismatic Movement? The early years of the twentieth century saw the establishment of several new pentecostal denominations. Leaders of the Charismatic Movement of the sixties, by contrast, encouraged those who had been influenced by the movement to work for renewal from within their own denominations. It is debatable how far this policy has been successful. Recently, it has seemed as if more than one quasi-denomination of 'house churches might be developing.

In this controversial but biblically based book Christians in these various streams are challenged to reexamine their commitment within the Body of Christ.

For forty years David Lillie has been a sympathetic observer of the renewal movements. Recognizing the strategic importance of the foundational ministries of Ephesians 4:11, he also believes that in God's ultimate plan the role of autonomous local churches functioning under Christ's headship is crucial. Indeed, it is through such fellowships that the Gospel of the Kingdom must be proclaimed to the whole world. The message of this book must be taken seriously by all who share this goal.
