I can only speak the truth with my life, that above all else, we owe our children a safe and peaceful world
With the advent of nuclear weapons, man has produced the means to threaten his own success as a species, and no other organism constitutes such a hazard to our sur-vival as we ourselves.
The contributors to this book have all carried out non-violent acts that have demonstrated their opposition to militarism, especially when it involves nuclear weapons, and all have suffered imprisonment as a consequence They come from a wide variety of professions and beliet teacher, social worker, Roman Catholic priest, Methodist, Quaker, doctor, carpenter, retired librarian and university lecturer.
They all believe that mankind can find a better way to sustain peace than threatening mutual genocide with weapons that can wantonly destroy so much of the earth These weapons also divert resources from more important humanitarian and ecological projects which demand attention.
These personal accounts which challenge the new god of nuclear defence also express the vision that human beings have sufficient imagination to break out of the vicious spiral of the arms race to achieve real peace This book is a powerful plea for the future of us all
