Karl Rahner, who died in 1983. is without question one of the outstanding Catholic theologians of this century. His influence has been profound and wide-ranging, from the philosophy of religion through dogmatic theology to moral and pastoral theology. His thought is subtle, nuanced, and difficult to grasp and, over his long and productive life as a theologian, his views on many key topics underwent considerable development.
