Book's Detail
Inherent nature of scripture

Dale E. and Evelyn Rupert Heath, joint author and editor of The Inherent Nature of Scripture, bespeak lifetime service in Chris-tian scholarship and African missions. Their current publica-tion unites these related concerns with Bible-centered education at home and abroad. Well indexed with hundreds of biblical texts, the book allows Scripture to speak for itself, inherently telling the reader that Bibles we hold in our hands are indeed what the writers intended, and clearly what Inspiration has given.
The major thesis, by contrast with inerrantist theology, is that our present Bibles, insofar as accurately translated, are dependably close to original texts without assignment of problems to "copyist errors." No longer need we seek for nebulous, non-existent "originals" in hope of discovering better Bibles than we now possess. "Critical Investigation" leads into "The Biblical Message" with fresh insights for Isaiah, St. John, and the other writers. American classrooms and pulpits, and Bible schools abroad, will greatly enrich their interpretations of Sacred Literature by careful and useful study of The Inherent Nature of Scripture.

Professor Heath took degrees from Greenville College (A.B.), Asbury Seminary (B.D.), and Michigan State University (Ph.D.). After fifteen years in the pastorate (Ohio Conference) he served twenty-seven years in "Ancient Language and History" on the faculty of Taylor University with assignments at home and abroad. The book is a digest of classroom techniques and approaches.
