Rather than viewing religious teachers as "instructional technicians" who implement educational programs, Foster sees them as mediators between God and his people a cohesive, strength-ening force within the faith community. "Saint Paul," he says, "claimed that teaching was a gift to the church for the sake of building it up as the Body of Christ. Foster strengthens his argument by exploring in detail the concept of the church as a community of shared values and faith.
