<note>The rapid growth of the chinamatic movement throughout the Chris tian church has brought with it both controversy and confusion Emerging from the relative obscurity of small Holiness and Pents-costal groups on the fringes of organized Christianity, charismatics are now established in every major denomination, Roman Catholic as well as Prolastant.

Popularly associated with the phenomenon known as tongue speaking, the term charismatic appiles to those who have experi enced a baptism of the Holy Spirit that involves receiving certain spintual gifts, someturies including the interpretation of tongues prophecy, and the glit of healing Characterised by an active style of participatory worship in which these gifts are practiced, the charismatic movament has found support not only in locat congre gations, but also on university campuses and in newly founced residential communities.</note>
