Since 1972, the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh has been issuing volumes devoted to an exploration of the conceptual foundations of science Volumes 1-7 were issued under the title "Pittsburgh Series in the Philosophy of Science." The new title, adopted as the series moves to the University of California Press reflects a growing emphasis in the series on the interpenetration of historical and conceptual modes of understanding science.
