<note>P ictured at the right is Dr. James Dobson circa 1970, when he was writing the first edition of Dare to Discipline. At that time he was a young professor of pediatrics (child development) at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He also served during that era on the attending staff for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. His first of many books, Dare to Discipline was an instant success, eventually selling more than two million copies and continuing as a best-seller for nearly twenty years. Gradually, however, the context for this book became out of date, even though the principles on which it was based are timeless. Thus, Dr. Dobson recently set out to write The New Dare to Discipline, a completely revised and expanded work.</note>
